They could never have imagined the repercussions from that first encounter in 1964, when Jean Vanier invited two people with an intellectual disability, Raphaël Simi and Philippe Seux, to leave their institution, after which they chose to live together in a small house in a village in the North of France. Today, 50 years later, there are 147 communities worldwide, on all five continents and in 35 countries.
